That's six days out of 365 each year when residents can expect acceptable levels of quiet. While we could swear we've heard the "Mow and Blow" crews at work on at least three of the "Quiet Six," here they are:
New Year's Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day
All violations of the noise ordinance, including any leaf blower use -
electric or gas - on Thanksgiving should be reported to the Orinda
Police Department's non-emergency phone number, (925) 284-5010, "Quiet Orinda" reminds us.
And EastBayDaze gives a big "amen" to that...

We hope more attention is given this issue. We've lived in Orinda for 23 years and have found it remarkable how noise levels have crept up around this "suburban" neighborhood. Leafblowers yes but other forms of noise pollution now make it almost routine. I asked a neighbor once if he heard another neighbor's outdoor sound system - go figure - and he said hed taught himself to ignore it rather than cause trouble.
That doesn't say much for us if were willing to accept someone else's transgressions without complaint. Your not going to fix this if we don't confront it and its going to need fixing.

Eric the Red- please join our Google Group called Quiet Orinda. We're organizing a grass-roots campaign to enact a ban on leafblowers in Orinda, and to greatly reduce other forms of noise as well! Here's a link to the Quiet Orinda Group: http://groups.google.com/group/quietorinda
