Whole Foods Serious About Settling In Lafayette, Land Use Permit In Place

It has been touch and go as the economy ebbs and flows, but the folks at Whole Foods have sent up an important signal to confirm their initial plans to set up shop in Lafayette.

The company has formally submitted its application for a permit to settle in the old Albertsons, and the town is ready to begin the review process. But unless there's any significant holdup, Whole Foods officials have indicated they will be open for business by mid-year 2010.

I was in Safeway the other morning and they were playing rap music in the aisles. Charming. I can't wait for Whole Foods to get here.

Whole Foods at that location could be a traffic disaster for Lafayette's downtown. The Whole Foods in Walnut Creek has a fair sized parking lot all to itself and it seems to be constantly jammed. Knowing that Whole Foods is coming to Lafayette, I pay attention to the number of empty spots around the empty old Albertson's. Including the parking along the east side of the building, generally about 25 to 30 spots are open in the lot.
Where are all these Lafayette Whole Foods customers going to park?

while I like diable market very much and they have been good to us the parking at that store and its limited access has been a problem. It would also be nice to get a different product mix that whole foods brings... plus I cannot stand driving jto Walnut creek!!
